Further to the first 2012 newsletters shared on our website, I’d like to congratulate all the children and staff on a FANTASTIC start to the school year, after our Canterbury- wide community had to nurse its way through such a turbulent 2011.

Special congratulations to Ebony Williams and Harri Tait on their appointment as Head Girl and Head Boy. They will be ably supported by a talented Student Council team of Anna Bennetto and Mick Latham (Rm 9), Anna Menzies (Rm 8), Bella Deans and Rory Trewinnard (Rm 7), Bella Robertson and Travis Jennings (Rm 6), and Lily McQuillan- Reese and Griffin Evans (Rm 5). This leadership team had its first meeting last week and have already started on planning mufti (fund-raising) days, particular school improvement ideas (e.g. the sunshade project in the senior classrooms’ area), and special celebration days (e.g. Pet Day) throughout what promises to be a brilliant year. Go kids!!

Unfortunately we have experienced some delays with the Room 7 extension project, with some extra Council building consent issues needing to be worked through, but the Board is hoping to see this renovation finished during term 2.

The Board’s building sub-committee is hard at work on initial planning for the new Year 1 classroom, with building hopefully getting underway before Easter. This purpose-built classroom will feature the latest in educational architecture and access to the most up-to-date technology, along with a revamped outdoor play area.

The Board is about to start work on its next 5 year property plan, which is due to kick in from July, with a number of schooling improvements under consideration, including a new court area in the downstairs playground after necessary drainage work was completed over the Christmas break. The Board will be consulting with the school community on this 5 year plan in coming months.
